Griffin Travel Cyprus was set up in 1989 to service the clientele of the Island and the adjacent areas such as Egypt, Lebanon and Africa. The office has had a gradual expansion programme that has been attributed to the growth in Cyprus, that has become one of the most important centres for ship management companies, many have set up their headquarters on the island. The estimated number of management companies has been put in the region of forty organisations, managing around 1100 ships, totalling around 18 million gross tonnage and utilising many different flags of vessel registration. In addition Cyprus is the registered office of the ISMA (the International Ship Managers Association) which as part of its criteria is the awareness of quality control and the safe and secure operation of the shipping industry.
